Freesia
Cormous perennial with semi-double, lilac-purple flowers, 2 inches long with white throats. Narrow sword shaped leaves 2-16 inches long, develop in basal fans.
The one pictured here blooms in early summer and is treated as a perennial with no special care by me (yet). The photos here were taken May 28th 2004.

CULTIVATION: Outdoors, plant 3 inches deep and 2 - 3 inches apart in moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun. Plant in spring for sumer flowering; in frost free areas, plant in autumn for spring flowers.
PROPAGATION: Sow seed at 55 - 64 F in autumn or winter. Remove small offsets in autumn.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Prone to spider mites, aphids, root rot, dry rot, and Fusarium wilt.
