Armeria (Sea Thrift) Sea Pink
The flower heads are an intense pinkish red that is visible for what seems like miles. Bearing flowers in solitary, dense, globe-shaped heads high above the foliage on leafless stems, these great garden plants are useful for cut flowers. They're tough as nails, often found growing in hard clay and poor, sandy soils near the coast. Relatively easy to grow, but this little plant may not make it long in my beds. It does not seem to be as tough as nails in this environment. Remember to deadhead.

CULTIVATION: Well drained, poor to moderately fertile sandy loam in full sun.
PROPAGATION: Divide in early spring or fall. Root semi ripe basal cuttings in summer.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Rarely susceptible to rust and Southern blight. In areas with hot summers, plants may rot out in center. Prone to spider mites and aphids under glass.
