Athyrium (Lady Fern)
Spread via a creeping rhizome. Can be divided when well established. Fertilize during the growing season once a month with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Will grow in most soils, but prefer average to rich, moist but well-drained media. It is a good idea to add humus and to mulch generously. Well-drained, moist, humus rich soil.
CULTIVATION: Moist, fertile, humus rich, neutral to acidic soil, enriched with leaf mold or compost.
PROPAGATION: Sow spores as soon as ripe. Plants grown from spores show variable coloration. Hybrids freely with other sthyriums. Divide in spring.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Prone to rust.
