Azalea
White - side of house.
Hino Crimson Red - creek.
Kurume Hybrid.
2004: increased iron fertilizer, needed 3x through year.

CULTIVATION: Moist, well drained leafy, humus rich, acidic soil (ideal pH 4.5-5.5). Shallow planting - surface rooting and will not tolerate deep planting. Proper site selection is necessary. Attention to soil, wind protection, sun, mulch.
PROPAGATION: Root semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or autumn. Layer in autumn. Graft in late winter or late summer.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Susceptible to vine weevil, whiteflies, leafhoppers, lacebugs, scale insects, catepillars, aphids, powdery mildew, bud blast, rust, leafy gall, petal blight, phytophthora root rot, and lime-induced chlorosis (if the soil is not sufficiently acidic).
