Dianthus (Carnation)
Apr 2006 - Planted around windmill base, by end of season they tripled in width. Alpine Pink 'Neon Star'. Late spring bloomer. Vibrant, florescent pink flowers are absolutely striking against the compact mounding foliage. Wonderful choice for border front or rock garden. Cut flowers are perfect for mini bouquets. Performs well in fast-draining soil amended with small amounts of lime. Remove spent blooms to promote continuous, free-flowering habit. I like the evergreen nature of this plant. CULTIVATION: Most prefer full sun and well drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Poor drainage especially in winter is the primary cause of failure.
