Gaillardia (Blanket Flower)
Daisy-like flower heads that are rich red, yellow tipped ray florets and red disk florets borne on medium stems. Bushy, leafy plants with brightly colored flower-heads and a long flowering period. Effective in a sunny border and are good for cutting. Self spreading.

CULTIVATION: Grow in fertile, well drained soil in full sun; poor soil is tolerated. Deadhead regularly. In colder climates, cut perennials back to about 6 inches in later summer to encourage new basal growth, which usually overwinters well.
PROPAGATION: Sow seed at 55-64F in early spring. Most perennials flower from seed first year. Divide perennials in spring or take root cuttings in winter.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Prone to downy mildew, rust, powdery mildew, white smut, bacterial leaf spots and leaf spot as well as slugs and snails.
